For 2027 we went past disclosure: we read every review of every live virtual try-on app on the Shopify App Store — all 223 of them — and audited the "time using the app" field printed on each review card. Every number was observed live on 2026-08-30; we re-verify on a ~90-day cycle. When we checked, zero pages anywhere targeted "best virtual try-on apps 2027" — every result was a 2026 vendor list, most ranking themselves first.
Every Shopify review discloses how long the merchant used the app before reviewing. Share of reviews left within the reviewer's FIRST 7 DAYS of use, per app (observed 2026-08-30): SS: AI Try On 91% (10 of 11 — including 5-star reviews at 2 and 3 minutes of use; longest reviewer tenure 13 days), ANTLA 65% (33 of 51 — 16 within the first day, including "14 minutes" and six "About 1 hour" reviews), Banuba 60% (3 of 5), Looksy 50% (3 of 6), GenLook 43% (15 of 35), TryPoint 42% (5 of 12), Icona 40% (6 of 15), Camweara 10% (6 of 59), Fittingbox 8% (1 of 12), Auglio 0% (0 of 16), Ello 0% (0 of 1 — our single review came after 20 days of use). The counter-pattern matters: Camweara's 59 reviews are the most seasoned in the category (31% past three months, several past two years), and Auglio has the longest-tenured reviewers AND the lowest rating (3.5) — seasoned reviews surface truth. A 5.0 built on install-day reviews and a 3.5 built on multi-year customers are not the same kind of number — so every app's review base now carries an A–F integrity grade that moves this ranking (full rubric and per-app tables: Virtual Try-On Apps Have a Review Problem. Also: mirrAR, ranked in most 2026 guides including ours, has been DELISTED from the App Store (live page checked 2026-08-30; last archived rating 4.2 · 5 reviews; newest review January 2024).

Audited but not ranked: SS: AI Virtual Try On (11 · 5.0, launched May 2026) — an F-grade review base: 5-star reviews at 2 and 3 minutes of use, 10 of 11 reviews inside a three-week window, 7 of 11 from one country, no reviewer past 13 days. A perfect score built entirely on reviews that couldn't have known anything is not evidence we're willing to rank on; we'll revisit once reviews with real tenure exist. New entrants under 10 reviews on 2026-08-30: Try You, FITS, STILARO, Etryon, AI Frame.
Wins: the one generative app treating hats, sunglasses, bags, watches, and jewelry as first-class try-ons alongside clothing, rendered onto the shopper's own photo from existing product images; a recurring free tier (10/mo) so you verify on your own catalog before paying; and published proof discipline — ~$0.067 compute per try-on (our data), denominators on every claim, and an always-on 10% holdout on a live store. At that store: 18.3% of try-on sessions purchased (21 of 115) with ,150 attributed revenue over 30 days — one store, results vary, try-on users are higher-intent (our data).
Loses: 1 review — every ranked rival has more, some by 50×. Six rivals hold the Built for Shopify badge; Ello doesn't yet. The $49 entry is the priciest generative sticker (Icona 4.99, GenLook/ANTLA 9.99). English-only vs GenLook's 45+ languages. Live-AR precision (ring sizing, optical fitting) is not our lane — Camweara and Fittingbox are stronger there.
